Research Paper Review: Four Main Steps You Should Take
Step 1: Understand
Before you start writing a research paper review, you should definitely understand what it is. In other words, you cannot write if you do not know what to write. So, you should know that a research paper review is a usually brief work that summarizes and analyzes your findings from a research paper you have recently read.
The research paper review has a standard structure that includes three main components, i. e. summary, analysis, and synthesis. Creation of these components is what the next three steps deal with.
Step 2: Introduction
Thus, the research paper review starts with the introduction of the topic of your work. In the introduction, the basic ideas of your research paper review are briefly presented in the context of the title of the research paper you are reviewing and the ideas found in that paper. Finally, the introduction prepares the reader to the analysis that develops your research paper review.
Step 3: Analysis
The analysis seems to be the most important part of your research paper review. In this part, you present your findings from reading the research paper and try to find the implications those findings have for the topic of the paper or other related subjects.
Step 4: Synthesis
At the same time, instructors often pay much more attention to the synthesis part of the research paper review, as this is the part in which the author presents his/her own ideas impacted by the information from the reviewed research paper. The synthesis section of your research paper review is obviously the most difficult part of the work as here you do not have any guidelines and do not present the data presented formerly by others. You show you analytical thinking abilities and understanding of scholarly works.
